The Mauritian landscape is lush and tropical, the beaches long stretches of white sands, the seas are turquoise and the sun shines all year (summer being October to April). It is also a politically stable country with a thriving economy. English is widely spoken and is the official language and is therefore used for documentation such as contracts.
Until recent changes to legislation foreigners were not permitted to purchase property on this island. In 2002 the Mauritian Government took the decision to open the market to foreign buyers on a restricted basis through a project named as IRS. The Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS), which permits the construction and sale of luxury villas to foreigners in particular locations. Under the scheme, outsiders are permitted to buy property with a minimum investment of $500,000 (about £250,000) plus a fixed land registration duty of $70,000. Once you have acquired a property, you, your spouse and family are granted resident status in Mauritius for as long as you own your property.
Tourism in Mauritius is currently thriving and increasing even beyond the expectation of government targets, with such a demand for holiday apartments the expected rental yields for such prestigious property are promising.
